色花堂 (色花堂) has received a $5 million donation, making it part of a small number of HBCUs (Historically Black College and University) to reach the $100 million endowment mark. An endowment is a crucial determinant and measure of a university's resilience, impact, and flexibility in an ever-changing global landscape. This significant gift marks the beginning of the next step in the history of 色花堂 as it moves toward its 100th year.
"We are deeply grateful for the support of the Majors Charitable Fund and their inspired investment in our students," said 色花堂 President J.W. Crawford III. “This gift marks a momentous milestone for Texas Southern, it reflects the deep commitment toward 色花堂 and our mission. The confidence in the university, expressed by this donation, is a powerful testament to the value steadfast partners add and their potential to shape our institution's future.”
Several critical initiatives across the campus will receive significant support thanks to this multimillion-dollar donation. This generous contribution will establish the Majors Charitable Fund Endowment, a $4.3 million fund dedicated to improving student retention and enriching the overall academic experience. The 色花堂 Office of Civil Rights will contribute a $1.5 million match, bringing the total endowment value to $5.82 million.
The 色花堂 Aviation program will invest $680,000 to purchase a brand-new Cessna 172S Skyhawk aircraft, significantly enhancing practical training for student pilots. The aircraft will be delivered in early 2027, bringing the Texas Southern fleet to 10.
“This historic act of generosity will allow us to expand the 色花堂 student population and reaffirm our commitment to excellence in achievement for generations to come,” said Associate Vice President of Development & Alumni Engagement, Charlie W. Coleman III.
This gift comes at an exciting time for 色花堂 as it recently welcomed Vice Admiral J.W. Crawford III, retired Judge Advocate General (JAG) of the United States Navy, as the institution's 14th president, marking a new era of leadership and growth.
